Dare I mention the word ‘Spring’ after the snow-storm which engulfed the majority of the UK barely two weeks ago? Ah, nature has a wild and wonderful way of keeping us on our toes – of letting us know when to slow down and when to gather the fire within to get out there and explore.
With the encouragement of new beginnings from nature, it is time for us to shrug off the hazy slumber of Winter and step towards the longer, nourishing days of Spring. I have spied the daffodils peaking their heads out of the earth, ready for the warmth and welcoming rays of that Spring sunshine. With this new season comes fresh energy – as Mother nature sheds the darkness of winter and starts to grow and flourish again, we follow suit.
The longer days and the lighter mornings guide us to rise a little earlier, to make the time to bless our skin with a little sunlight again, to feel the weight of winter gently lifted off our shoulders by all things new. New life in nature and new life in us. The seasons are such beautiful periods of change which help us perceive things in a new light where we may have been stuck in a rut.
Spring brings rejuvenation from many months of rest and hibernation. We can slowly start to exchange nights encompassed by self-reflection – accompanied by stacks of books, cups of tea and nestled in blankets – for early evening walks in nature, for becoming reacquainted with our sense of purpose, for returning to nurture those friendships which may have slipped away during the quieter months.
For me, Spring represents fresh energy. After the long period of reflection which Winter can so often be, this season offers a deep breath of fresh air. I encourage you to take the energy bestowed upon us by this shift in season to try the following:
Now is the time to shake out all the tension built up over past months, whatever that equates to for you. Movement is medicine and movement comes in many forms – explore this month and find the one that benefits you both mentally and physically. At The Healthy Life Centre, we offer a multitude of therapies, classes and workshops to work out those niggles which have accumulated over the winter months from a predominantly sedentary lifestyle.
Whether you are finding it tough to shed the hibernating nature of winter or you’re full of energy and appreciation of the longer and lighter days, show yourself a little love and nourish your soul to begin this new season. Nature is teaching us that it is time to step towards new adventures and explorations of self, and we are here to provide a community in which to do so.
Take a full body stretch. Take a long, sweet inhale of that fresh spring air and smile…for today is a beautiful new day – a gift, with which you may do as you choose.
