Gestalt Therapy
Gestalt psychotherapy offers a way to get to know yourself, heal from difficult experiences and experience care and empathy. We work together, exploring the present moment, looking at unhelpful patterns and experimenting with creating new ones in a safe space. We take a holistic approach to support you to move through suffering and explore your creative potential.
Why Gestalt therapy?
Better Relationships
Intuition tells us the good relationships with family, partners, friends are essential to our sense of belonging, health and wellbeing. This is backed up by a vast body of research. Yet, we are living in a time where research also tells us there is a ‘loneliness epidemic’. Many things can get in the way of creating meaningful and satisfying relationships: anxiety, shyness, an unsupportive childhood, depression and more. Gestalt therapy offers a supportive space to explore what is getting in the way of you creating the relationships you want and how to find ways of overcoming these barriers.
Grow a healthy sense of self-worth
Gestalt therapy can support you to create a healthy sense of self-worth through developing insight into your relationship with your self and growing self-compassion and understanding. We look at your patterns, how and why they developed and explore how to create new, more healthy patterns. This isn’t about me telling you what is ‘wrong’ and how to ‘fix’ it. I support you to uncover what is going on and to find your own unique solutions.
Dealing with suffering (depression, anxiety, trauma etc)
In today’s fast-paced world with increasing demands and distractions, it isn’t always easy to find places to be supported with emotions or to attend to difficult experiences. Gestalt therapy offers the chance to slow down and take time to look at issues such as trauma, depression and anxiety. We look at these issues together with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of what is going on and how to navigate difficulties so you can lead a life which is meaningful for you.
Flourish
Good mental health from a gestalt perspective is about more than the absence of chronic conditions. It is about supporting you to fulfil your potential and live a satisfying and creative life, reflecting your own unique path. If you are feeling stuck in certain aspects of your life but feel like you want to move forward, we can explore what is going on and how to support a create way of dealing with this.
What happens in the sessions?
Depending on your interest, we can work by talking, by looking at dreams, or exploring movement and your embodied experience to support you to live a vibrant fulfilling life with meaningful connections.
Therapy can be short term or long term, it depends on what you want to gain from being in therapy. We will work together to identify what it is you are looking for and what might be the best way of getting it.

Gillian Allan
Relationships, emotions and body work have always been of great interest to me. Before I trained in Gestalt, I was involved in academic research on friendship and I also trained as a Feldenkrais movement practitioner. I have worked in community development with adults with learning disabilities for 7 years. This work takes a person-centred approach to developing people’s and communities’ capacities for growth and change. |
