Never before has ‘normal’ life been so hectic, demanding and challenging, yet whatever your circumstances or cultural background, you are born with resources to help you successfully navigate your way through life. At times however, we forget them or lose confidence in our own abilities, and need help to rediscover and make use of them in a better way. I use the Human Givens approach to psychotherapy and counselling to help you find those strengths and resources more easily, enabling you to bring them out to lead a more relaxed, fulfilled and confident life.
The Human Givens approach is solution-focused, practical and holistic, and tailored to your individual needs - aiming to help you regain control over your life as quickly as possible. It applies the latest insights from neuroscience and psychological research, blended with ancient wisdom and proven psychotherapeutic techniques, to swiftly and effectively enable you to feel a positive difference after the first and each session.
If you are going through: depression (including postnatal), anxiety, anger, addictions, panic attacks, OCD, trauma/PTSD, phobias, over/under eating, or difficulties around relationships, health and life transitions, please feel free to contact me to find out how I can help in only a few sessions: [email protected]/ 07887 682291.
“…in two empowering sessions my issues were addressed and I left the session feeling light and joyful; the impact of the work was impressive and far exceeded any expectations.” (Susi Downey)

You’re probably reading this because you’d like some help in addressing challenges in your life or managing difficult feelings. Maybe you normally take a role that’s focused on helping others and you’re not used to making time to look after and nurture yourself - you’re the strong one, coping and making sure others are happy. Through counselling, I can help you get unstuck and move forward. It’s not always an easy journey - especially if you’re more used to focusing on other people than yourself - but it’s a rewarding one.
My counselling background in Transactional Analysis considers how the relationship patterns we developed with people when we were young continue to shape how we relate to people (and to ourselves) in the present day. I tend to pay attention to those inner aspects of you that perhaps you squash down and don't listen to, because often those parts - which may be frightened or angry or unsettled - have something to tell you, and when you listen they can calm down.
I’ll support you to find ways of managing difficult feelings, and to pay attention to the things that nourish and support you to help you to build your resilience. I share free tips for this on my Facebook page and my blog.
Getting outdoors feeds my soul and I was delighted when recent research showed evidence for the beneficial effects of being in nature (two-hour-dose-nature-weekly-boosts-health-study-finds). I offer walk-and-talk therapy - essentially counselling outdoors - alongside the more traditional counselling model. I also provide counselling online by webcam, phone, instant messaging and email, which can be a good option if you travel or can't always make an appointment in person.
I'm always happy to talk about how I work even if you're not sure if you're ready for counselling at this point. You can find out more at my website lucyhydetherapy.com
Qualifications:
Diploma in Counselling with Transactional Analysis (Physis Training Ltd, Edinburgh)
Diploma in Online Counselling Skills (Online Counselling Service & Training)
Certificate in Focusing Skills (Fiona Parr, British Focusing Association)
Currently undertaking Focusing Practitioner training (read more at focusing ).
I'm a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and of the Association for Counselling & Therapy Online (ACTO).

Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to follow a career path that would help me make a difference in peoples' lives and in this way become who I was meant to be. This passion led me to gain a first-class BSc in Psychology and later to graduate first class with a MSc in Forensic Psychology. Since then I have continued to study and learn. I use my skills to help my clients along with strong intuition and empathy.
In my sessions I use a positive, holistic and integrative approach to take care of my clients and I work diligently to help find them the answers they seek. Since 2007 I have worked with a wide diversity of clients to deal with the many different circumstances that are unique to their lives. I promote a deep transformation by encouraging a positive outlook and the adoption of new attitudes and reactions. I have the tools and professional expertise and experience to help you explore whatever is important to you, in a respectful, non-judgemental and open way.

I am a Gestalt therapist in senior clinical training. Gestalt psychotherapy offers a way to get to know yourself, heal from difficult experiences and experience care and empathy. We work together, exploring the present moment, looking at unhelpful patterns and experimenting with creating new ones in a safe space.
Depending on your interest, we can work by talking, by looking at dreams, or exploring movement and your embodied experience to support you to live a vibrant fulfilling life with meaningful connections. Gestalt therapy is particularly helpful for developing new ways of relating and creating intimacy, dealing with anxiety, depression and trauma.
Relationships, emotions and body work have always been of great interest to me. Before I trained in Gestalt, I was involved in academic research on friendship and I also trained as a Feldenkrais movement practitioner. I have worked in community development with adults with learning disabilities for 7 years. This work takes a person-centred approach to developing people’s and communities’ capacities for growth and change.
