Shiatsu Massage
What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a type of Japanese hands on body work stemming from ancient Oriental principals.
Like western massage it uses pressure, stretches, holding, joint mobilisations and rocking. In addition, Shiatsu works with the body's 'Life Force', known as Ki in Japan. Shiatsu can have positive effects not only on the body's physical structures and internal organs, but also on blocked emotions which can often be touched and helped to heal during a session. Shiatsu is a therapy that addresses all aspects of our being: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Shiatsu therapist have completed a minimum of 3 years training.

What to expect. Unlike a classical massage, Shiatsu is received fully clothed, so wearing loose comfortable clothing and warm socks is recommended for your session. Sessions are given usually on a futon on the floor, however Shiatsu can also be given on a table should you have any mobility issues. Seated Shiatsu sessions are also available.

Shiatsu is a wonderful form of healing bodywork. I first discovered Shiatsu in 2009 when I received my first session. I was amazed at how relaxed, yet energised I felt afterwards. I quickly signed up to study this wonderful practice which felt like part massage, part energy healing and you don't even have to take your clothes off!
I have been a Shiatsu practitioner since 2012, working from The Healthy Life Centre & Edinburgh Shiatsu Clinic. I am interested in assisting people to reduce stress & physical issues in their lives and find the elusive balance that we all seek.
It's so easy to push our needs aside and not practice kindness to ourselves, whether during our regular busy routine or at times of increased stress or sadness. Often when we slow down & pay attention to ourselves, we can start to take steps to resolve physical & emotional issues that have been bothering us. Making the time to have a Shiatsu session is a great first step.
1 hour session - £45
30 minute seated session - £25
15 minute seated session - £15

Feeling achy, stressed, tired? Perhaps you have been living with poor sleep, headaches, back pain or all of the above? My clients get the attention they need to really improve their quality of life and sense of ease within themselves long after their treatment has ended. I combine a variety of techniques to help you shed the layers of strains and encouraging transformation to a healthier way of being. Traditional acupressure points and work along the meridians (energy channels) can be extremely useful, but I will also work deeply into tight muscles and use movement, breath and stretches to release stuck fascia, abdominal massage (ampuku) to give the internal organs a much needed boost of vitality.
I aim to encourage flow of energy, to get you un-stuck, both physically and mentally, so you may become more aware of some aches, experience uncomfortable emotions or memories. This is perfectly normal part of the healing process and with a bit of time and rest you can find yourself in a much better place. I am more than happy to discuss any concerns and offer support and guidance.
I believe that relaxation is essential for the treatment to be successful. I use either floor-level futon or a massage table, depending on what's easiest for you, and often use the body cushion support system, which allows your spine to remain in a comfortable neutral position throughout the session. I love to use my Shiatsu to benefit pregnant women and those with young babies, providing comfortable and nourishing treat for the mother, easing the aches and strains that come with parenting. I offer a £10 discount for all those who are either expecting or have had their child within the last 12 months (that goes for dads too!).
